SCS Construction began as a local Indiana contractor with a straightforward promise: do quality work, act with integrity, and build relationships that last. That promise has carried the company through new markets, larger projects, expanded capabilities, and a carefully planned transition to the next generation of leadership.

2005

SCS Construction Services is founded

Scott Kennell establishes SCS with a vision of building a commercial construction company grounded in integrity, quality craftsmanship, and lasting client relationships.

2006–2010

First construction management project

SCS serves as Construction Manager for the Decatur Township High School Rebuild, a landmark project that establishes the company’s reputation for successfully delivering complex public construction work.

2010–2019

From construction management firm to full-service contractor

SCS evolves into a full-service commercial general contractor. During this period, the company completes 29 Planet Fitness projects across seven states: Indiana, Kentucky, Illinois, Missouri, Mississippi, Alabama, and Florida. The repeat-client program strengthens SCS’s multi-state experience while the company expands into education, healthcare, municipal, industrial, retail, and tenant-improvement markets. 2011

A new chapter of leadership

Scott Kennell assumes full leadership and continues growing SCS into one of Central Indiana’s established commercial contractors.

2016

Taylor Kennell joins SCS

Taylor brings experience in business development, insurance, and client relations while beginning his path toward future leadership of the company.

2018

Annual revenue surpasses $10 million

The milestone reflects the company’s continued growth, expanding client base, and increasing market presence.

A stronger financial foundation

Through disciplined financial management, SCS significantly strengthens its working capital and bonding capacity, positioning the company to pursue larger and more complex public construction projects.

The team grows to 25 employees

The milestone reflects the steady expansion of SCS operations, client base, and project portfolio.

2020

Annual revenue exceeds $15 million

The company continues to build momentum and demonstrates its resilience through a period of significant change in the construction industry.

2021

Wes Kennell joins SCS

Wes strengthens the company’s leadership in operations and project execution.

A five-year leadership succession plan begins

SCS establishes a formal roadmap to transition ownership and executive leadership to the second generation while preserving the culture and values established by the founder.

Self-perform concrete capabilities launch

SCS expands its in-house field capabilities, providing clients with greater control over quality, schedule, and project execution.

2022

First public project exceeding $10 million

SCS is awarded Greenwood Sports Park, demonstrating the company’s ability to successfully compete for and manage large-scale public construction projects.

2023

Annual revenue surpasses $30 million

SCS reaches the strongest growth period in company history while continuing to invest in its people, systems, and project delivery.

2025

First private project exceeding $10 million

The VA medical office facility in Highland Heights, Kentucky, marks another major milestone in the company’s continued growth and private-sector experience.

2025

Leadership structure expands

SCS formalizes leadership across finance and administration, project management, preconstruction, and field operations to support continued growth and accountability.

2026

A new generation of ownership

Taylor Kennell becomes President, Wes Kennell becomes Executive Vice President, and Scott Kennell transitions into the next chapter after more than two decades of leadership. The planned succession preserves the values and accountability that built the company while positioning SCS for responsible future growth.
